Bar & Counter Stools

In all reality, there is not much difference between bar stools and counter stools other than the height to suite either a counter or bar. Also, determine the purpose and comfort level for what the stool will be mainly used for. Counter stools with backs may be desired if you’ll be dining most often at the counter, whereas bar stools sometimes backless, work well with the style of your room, bar space, and option to belly up to the bar.

The counter height bar stools that are most in demand right now are typically made of solid wood such as Oak or Maple. In addition, they also feature no arms. Upholstered styles are just as popular as those without upholstered seats or backs. There is also a growing trend towards saddle kitchen stools as well.

Most counter stools range between 25 to 30 inches, with "tall" barstools ranging between 30 to 40 inches. When picking a counter or bar stool, it's important to leave about 10" between the seat of the stool and the bottom of the bar or counter so your legs have a comfortable amount of space.
